Celebrity coverage is UK-first and intentionally curated rather than an exhaustive list of every public figure.

Unscramble Celebrity Names from Jumbled Letters

The Celebrity Anagram Solver is designed for quizzes, puzzles and games where the answer is the name of a famous person.

For example:

EELAD → ADELE

and:

MAHKCEB DIVAD → DAVID BECKHAM

The solver ignores spaces and punctuation when it compares the letters, so the order and spacing of the scrambled input do not need to match the finished name.

This page is for identifying a celebrity from scrambled letters. If you want to create new words or phrases from a person’s name instead, use the Name Anagram Solver.

Celebrity Anagram Examples

Here are several exact examples included in the current database:

Each pair contains the same letters once spacing and letter order are ignored.

How to Use the Celebrity Anagram Solver

01

Enter the jumbled celebrity name.

Type the letters in any order.

02

Use ? for an unknown letter

if part of the puzzle is missing.

03

Add a known name pattern

when you already know some letter positions.

  1. Choose a category if you know the person’s field.
  2. Filter by the number of words in the name if useful.
  3. Select Find Celebrity to search the database.

The tool returns exact letter matches from its celebrity-name database.

Enter the Scrambled Name

You do not need to preserve the original spacing.

For example:

TFIWS ROLYAT

can be matched to:

TAYLOR SWIFT

because the letters are identical once spaces and order are ignored.

Hyphens, apostrophes and punctuation are also ignored for the letter match.

Use ? for an Unknown Letter

Enter ? when one of the letters is unknown.

The current tool supports up to three unknown letters in one search.

A wildcard can stand for any one missing letter, but the total number of characters still has to match the celebrity name after spaces and punctuation are removed.

Add a Known Name Pattern

The Known name pattern field is useful when a quiz or crossing puzzle has already revealed some positions.

You can use:

  • a letter for a known position
  • ? for an unknown position
  • _ for an unknown position
  • . for an unknown position

For example:

A?E?E

can be used to describe a five-letter name where the first, third and fifth letters are already known.

If you include spaces in the pattern, the tool also respects the word boundaries.

More About Celebrity Anagrams

Filter Celebrity Matches by Category

If you know what the person is famous for, use the Category filter.

The current database groups names into:

  • Film & TV
  • Music
  • Sport
  • TV & Media
  • Royal & Public

You can also leave the setting on All celebrities when the category is unknown.

These are broad editorial groups used to make the results easier to filter. They are not intended as a complete description of a person’s career.

Filter by the Number of Words in the Name

The Name words filter can narrow the search to:

  • 1-word names
  • 2-word names
  • 3-word names
  • 4 or more words

For example, if you know that the answer is a two-word celebrity name, choosing 2 words removes one-word and longer names from the results.

Leave the setting on Any when you are not sure.

UK Names First

SolveAnagrams is designed for a UK audience, so the default sorting places names marked as UK entries before international names when several exact matches are possible.

You can also select UK names only to remove international entries completely.

The database still includes internationally known actors, musicians and sportspeople who are familiar to UK audiences, because celebrity puzzles are not limited to British public figures.

What Does the Celebrity Database Cover?

The current celebrity data is a curated UK-first list, not an exhaustive directory of every public figure.

It currently contains 459 names across British and internationally recognised people, including examples from:

  • film and television
  • music
  • football and other sports
  • British television and media
  • royalty and public life

The aim is to provide useful coverage for common celebrity-anagram quizzes rather than to include every notable person.

If the exact person you need is not in the database, the solver cannot return that name even when your letters are correct.

Why Might the Solver Return No Match?

A zero-result search does not necessarily mean that the letters cannot form a real person’s name.

There are several possible reasons.

The Celebrity May Not Be in the Database

The current database is deliberately curated rather than exhaustive.

A public figure who has not yet been added will not appear in the results.

One of the Letters May Be Wrong

The tool looks for exact letter matches.

A missing, duplicated or incorrect letter can prevent the correct name from matching.

The Filters May Be Too Narrow

Check whether you have selected:

  • UK names only
  • a specific category
  • a particular number of name words
  • a known pattern

Clearing one or more filters may reveal the answer.

An Unknown Letter May Need a Wildcard

If one letter is uncertain, replace it with ?.

The tool can use up to three wildcards in one search.

How Exact Celebrity Matching Works

The tool removes non-letter characters from the scrambled input and compares the remaining letters with the normalised letters of each celebrity name in the database.

For a standard search, the sorted letters must match exactly.

For example:

EELAD

and:

ADELE

both contain:

  • A × 1
  • D × 1
  • E × 2
  • L × 1

That is why the solver can identify Adele even though the input letters are in a different order.

When wildcards are used, the known letters must still fit the target name and each ? accounts for one unknown character.

Known Patterns and Word Boundaries

A pattern gives the tool information about the final spelling of the celebrity’s name.

If you enter a pattern without spaces, the tool compares it with the celebrity name after spaces and punctuation have been removed.

If you include spaces, the tool respects those word boundaries.

This can be useful when you know that the answer contains, for example, a five-letter first name followed by a seven-letter surname.

Use ?, _ or . for any positions that are still unknown.

Sorting Celebrity Results

The solver currently offers three sorting options.

UK Names First

This is the default.

UK entries appear first, followed by international entries, with names alphabetised within those groups.

A–Z

This sorts all matching celebrity names alphabetically.

Category

This groups the matches by their broad category and then sorts the names alphabetically.

Celebrity Anagram Solver vs Name Anagram Solver

These two tools solve different problems.

Celebrity Anagram Solver

Use this page when you have something like:

EELAD

and want to discover that the answer is:

ADELE

The target is an existing celebrity name from our database.

Name Anagram Solver

Use the Name Anagram Solver when you start with a name and want to transform its letters into ordinary words or phrases.

For example:

ALEC GUINNESS → GENUINE CLASS

The target is a newly formed word or phrase rather than the identity of the person.

Tips for Solving Celebrity Anagrams

Look at the Number of Letters

Count the letters in the scrambled name before guessing.

The answer must contain the same total number of letters, ignoring spaces and punctuation.

Think About Likely Name Lengths

A long scrambled string may represent a first name and surname rather than one word.

Use the Name words filter if the puzzle format gives you this information.

Use the Category as a Clue

If the quiz section is about music, sport or television, apply that category before searching.

This can reduce the number of exact matches you need to check.

Add Any Known Letters

A partial pattern is particularly useful when several names share the same length.

Even one or two fixed positions can remove irrelevant matches.

Check Alternative Spacing Only When Needed

Because the solver ignores spaces for the underlying letter comparison, you do not need to guess the exact spacing before searching.

Use a spaced Known name pattern only when the word boundaries themselves are part of the clue.

What Is a Celebrity Anagram Solver?

A celebrity anagram solver takes scrambled letters and compares them with names in a celebrity database to identify exact matches.

It is useful for quizzes and puzzles where a famous person’s name has been rearranged.

Does the Solver Only Include British Celebrities?

No.

The database is UK-first, but it also includes internationally recognised celebrities familiar to UK audiences.

Use UK names only when you specifically want to restrict the results to entries marked as UK.

How Many Celebrity Names Are in the Database?

The current database contains 459 curated names.

It can be expanded over time without changing the basic solver.

Can I Use Unknown Letters?

Yes. Use ? for an unknown character.

The current tool supports up to three wildcards.

Can I Search by Profession or Category?

Yes. You can filter the database by Film & TV, Music, Sport, TV & Media, or Royal & Public.

Can I Enter Spaces in the Scrambled Name?

Yes. Spaces and punctuation are ignored for the underlying letter match.

Can I Search for a Two-Word Celebrity Name?

Yes. Choose 2 words in the Name words filter.

You can also select one word, three words, four or more words, or leave the filter on Any.

What If the Celebrity Is Missing?

The tool can only return names contained in the current database.

If your letters are correct but the celebrity is not included, no match will appear. You can report a missing name through our Contact page.

Can This Tool Create Funny Anagrams from a Celebrity’s Name?

That is a different task.

Use the Name Anagram Solver when you want to create words or phrases from a person’s name.
